It was my first such session for quite a while so I'm going from memory but, as I remember them, the starting points for fines when we had no information regarding the means of the offender (which with these cases seems to be the rule rather than the exception) was:- 1 month's arrears £402 - 3 months' arrears £604 - 6 months' arrears £757 - 12 months' arrears £100 the equivalent figures using the new method for calculating… [read post]

So, any time a defendant is subject to a minimum fine (I'm thinking DUI cases especially), defense attorneys should be asking the court to consider the defendant's ability to pay the fine. [read post]
